What it does for you
- Enter each supply once, the way you buy it ($54.99 for 10 lb), and use it in any unit of the same kind (grams, ounces). The cost per unit is worked out for you.
- Build each product from your supplies plus labor minutes and packaging, and see its full cost per item.
- Three suggested prices side by side: cost x multiplier (the classic x2 x2), target margin, and target profit. Both target methods are worked out after your main channel's fees.
- Net profit and margin on every place you sell, after its fees and after paying yourself your hourly wage.
- The minimum price for your target profit on every channel.
- Sale Checker: type a discount (type 20 for 20%) and see what is left on every channel, with a plain verdict: Still on target, Below target profit, Pays less than your wage, or Loses money. It also shows the biggest discount each product can take and still earn your target.
- Dashboard: products below your target are listed first, with how much to raise each price, then the rest, each group lowest margin first.
- Works with free shipping or charged shipping. Enter what you charge the buyer, and the fees and the label are counted correctly either way. Pricing shows the shipping you pay yourself.
- Materials, Products, Recipes and Channels each have a Check column (and Settings a check cell) that says OK or tells you exactly what to fix. A product with a problem shows no numbers at all, rather than a number you can't trust.
What's inside (10 tabs)
1. Start Here: a one-page guide.

3. Materials: your supply library (room for 200 supplies).
4. Products: labor, packaging, shipping and your own price if you have one (room for 100 products).
5. Recipes: which supplies go into each product (room for 800 lines).
6. Pricing: costs, three suggested prices, net profit, margin and minimum price on every channel.
7. Sale Checker: what a discount leaves you on every channel.
8. Dashboard: your whole catalog ranked, with the products below target first.
9. Channels: one row per place you sell, with its fees (10 slots).
10. Units: 24 units ready to convert (weight, volume, length, area, count and machine time), and room to add your own.
Three finished examples (a soy candle, a crochet beanie and a laser-cut ornament) show everything working. The pictures show a larger eight-product example shop so you can see a full Dashboard. A BLANK copy with no examples is included too.
Etsy fees, pre-filled
The Channels tab comes filled with 2026 US fees: Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 payment processing, the $0.20 listing renewal charged each time an item sells, and Offsite Ads (15%, or 12% for shops over $10k a year, with the $100 per-order cap). It also has Shopify Basic (2.9% + $0.30 online card), Square in person (2.6% + $0.15) and a Custom row for your own website or a consignment shop. Wholesale prices are shown on their own, as cost x your wholesale multiplier. Every fee is an ordinary cell you can change.
Who it's for
Makers who sell handmade work: candles, crochet and knitting, laser cutting, jewelry, soap, sewing, woodwork, resin and more. It suits you if you sell on Etsy, at craft fairs, on your own site, or all three, and want to know your real profit on each.
How you get it
This is an instant digital download. After purchase you download:
- a PDF with your Google Sheets "make a copy" link and a quick-start guide;
- Maker-Pricing-Calculator.xlsx (with the three examples) and Maker-Pricing-Calculator-BLANK.xlsx for Microsoft Excel.
Nothing physical will be shipped.
What you need
- Google Sheets: a free Google account. Your copy is saved in your own Google Drive.
- Or Microsoft Excel: open the .xlsx file.
Honest limits
- Fees are pre-filled for the US. Outside the US, type in your own Etsy, Shopify or Square fees.
- Sales tax is not modeled. Etsy charges its processing fee on sales tax it collects, so in states that tax your item your real Etsy fee is a little higher.
- Each order is counted as one item, so per-order fees and the shipping label are counted once per item. On orders of several items that slightly overstates your costs.
- Etsy Ads and monthly plan fees are budgets, not per-sale fees: add them to Monthly overhead.
- Fees change. Check them against your own account now and then.
- Amounts show a $ sign. The math works in any currency, and you can change the cell format to your own symbol.
FAQ
Q: Do I need Excel?
A: No. Google Sheets is free and runs in your web browser. The Excel files are there if you prefer Excel.
Q: I only sell at craft fairs, not online. Is it still useful?
A: Yes. Pick Square (in person) or the Custom row as your main channel, and set the Etsy rows aside.
Q: Can I add my own sales channel?
A: Yes. Fill in the next empty row on Channels and every tab picks it up. There are 10 channel slots.
Q: Will I break the formulas by accident?
A: The calculated cells are locked so they can't be typed over by accident. The lock has no password, so you can switch it off if you ever want to.
Q: What does "net profit" mean here?
A: What is left after fees, materials, packaging, your share of overhead AND your hourly wage. So a price that is "on target" pays you for your time as well.
Q: How do I type a percentage?
A: Type 7 for 7%. The % sign is added for you.
About how this was made

Buying, downloads and refunds
Slatewise LLC makes these products. Gumroad processes each purchase as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, collects any sales tax or VAT, and sends your receipt. Prices are in US dollars, and checkout shows the total before you pay.
Everything here is a digital download, so nothing is shipped. After checkout, Gumroad shows a download button and emails you the link. If you'd rather buy on Gumroad's own site, the same products are in our Gumroad store.
Digital downloads can't be returned, exchanged or canceled. If a file won't open, a link doesn't work, or something isn't as described, write to support@slatewisestudio.com and we'll fix it, or refund you if we can't. This doesn't affect your rights under consumer law where you live.
Your card details go to Gumroad and its payment processors, never to us. The privacy policy says what Gumroad passes on to us and what we do with it, and the terms cover the purchase.
